Mirpur And Birmingham, Bus Service Between

Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) announced that its Mirpur city will directly be linked by road with the United Kingdom through a direct bus service between the city and Birmingham, by the beginning of 2012.
The new road route was disclosed by AJK Transport Minister Tahir Khokher while addressing a news conference at the Kashmir Press Club here on Sunday.

Mirpur And Birmingham, Bus Service Between To Be Launched In 2012Khokher said that the proposed Mirpur-Birmingham bus service would be plied from Mirpur – which has a significant population of UK-based Kashmiri expatriates – via Quetta and Tehran (Iran) to the UK.
AJK’s transport authorities are hoping that the project will facilitate over 0.70 million Britain-based Kashmiri expatriates hailing from this district. Khokher said that at the first leg of the proposed plan is to be executed by March next year. To this end, four buses of international standard will be plied on the Mirpur-Birmingham route.
The minister revealed that the fare of the proposed Mirpur-Birmingham international bus service will be around Rs20,000 per passenger.

Road safety
He announced that up-to-date mechanism was being devised, coupled with the required legislation by the AJK Legislative Assembly, in order to discourage the violation of traffic rules and regulations.
He said that new transport policy will be announced during the next session of the AJK Legislative Assembly.
He added that the new transport policy will envisage zero tolerance for over-loading and overcharging of fares in the public transport.

Hmmmm… Not sure about the practicalities of this – it’ll take atleast 8-12 days one way, which is basically good for a bus tour of the countries the route will cross..

Also sitting in one seat for two weeks isn’t my idea of travel lol, I can barely stomach 7hour flights on pia!

  13. Sarah Irshad says:

Who will be crazy enough to take a bus all the way too Pakistan when u can just fly? Even if it’s a hundred pound cheaper it’s still not worth the extra time and discomfort. Why don’t these people actually think of something that will benefit people rather than pulling new dumb and dumber ideas out of their hats?

  14. I think it will appeal to many people, who still have a bit of adventurous spirit left……….surprised at the negative comments…

  23. this is ok for occasional vacations but not permanent Kashmiri should not be offering themselves as banks for others personal economy but only Kashmirs, kashmiris need to begin to think about themselves and their own nations development.there are very kniving people out there who would like to set CH Majid and Barristor loyalist against one another this intention of such a kniving people be watched carefully, nor should these two notaries be leaning too much towards president or PM house in islamabad.Airport is more in need then Bus service but bus service is good for adventurouse and siteseeing and opportunity for people of AJK to visit East and EU/UK for 2/4weeks visit before the buses set off again to AJK.this money should only go into Kashmirs treasury.but Airport has to be thought out properly for its designs and distance from Mirpur/poonch and dadyal and another will be needed in Gilgit Baltistan i urge both GB governor and AJK government liase regularly between the two AJK states at government level GB Political affair should be running from Muzzafarabad the Gilgit Baltistan governor should be answerable to Muzzafarabad who should be taking interest into Siachin too.not to forget China is to be our good friendly neighbour.I have afew designs in mind if interested.

  29. If it take ten days to travel in this route, there require 4 drivers, 2 attendants and everybody has to spend atleast another Rs.20,000/- for travel expenses enroute. Finally it is economical to go by air than this uncertain route with dangerous elements waiting to kidnap for ransom.

  30. Aman Khan says:

    you must be joking…

  31. shaista khan says:

ha ha another joke did they not have anything better to do i think mirpuris/azad kashmiris should all chip in and have there own no frills airline instead of pia that will be cheaper and better and safer than poxy ideas trhat wil not go any where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. ch ifzal says:

people sitting on a bus for more than 1 day will be exhausted and tired, basic santery, cleanless needs will be requird otherwise the spread of bacteria will spread within the bus enviroment.
the issues of security and safeness will be another issue.

i really cannot see this happening without the presence of some form of escort/security from each state or country as passing through.
this whole idea is shambles awaiting for a disaster to happen.

ideas like this are putting pakistan country behind think postive and come with logical ,realistic and common sense ideas.

p.s.i wonder which tycoon, polition will benefit from this venture as most likely it will be gov funded project and eventuly go down the drain.

people of pakistan are mislead easily because they belive in others more than there selfs.

think ahead ,think postive and think logicol.

  34. Its Impossible. Sirf Awaam Ko Fool Banaia ja raha hai.Haqeeqt kuch nae hai.

  35. Excellent vision by the Transport Minister and CH Majeed Shb.

What they should do is to upgrade the Army Airport in Mangla to take International flights and I and certain that they can get Easyjet, Virgin airways or the Arab Airlines to run the route and all they profits will then go into the AJK PPP Bank Account which they could use to re- develop AJK and make it a better country instead of all the profits going to Islamabad.

An excellent facility for ex-pats from the UK to AJK.

If the Government of AJK wants any more ideas, please drop me a like…I do not want a polot of land or any other benefits!! Just want the Kashmiri community to get their own land and recognition in the world!

  36. baseer ahmad says:

    thats good

  37. Nomaan says:

I think its a good idea but whats the point of taking all that hassle? Why not just travel by plane? Who cares if its cheaper the main reason is that you get there safe and soundly. They have to get across borders thats the main problem you dont wanna get shot do you. If they are really intending to do something good why not fix the roads of pakistan and when it rains the water stops on the roads why dont they just put gutters and make paths for water to not stop on the roads. Also we could really do with a airport at Mirpur and our own airlines and Mirpur and Islamghar people and everyone there can chip in money and these lot put there money together and well have enough to open our airlines.
