Coventry: Dead body of Salma Parveen has been found in a house in Coventry

M Iqbal was husband of Salma ParveenMohammed Iqbal has been charged with murder after a young woman’s body was found at a house in Coventry. M Iqbal, 28, appeared in court accused of killing Salma Parveen.

Police were called to Awson Street, in Foleshill, after receiving information that a woman was dead at the address. Iqbal was formally charged with murder. M Iqbal was husband of Salma Parveen, and had arrived from Pakistan as student.

At Coventry Magistrates Court, speaking via an interpreter, he confirmed his name, date of birth, and that he lived in Awson Street. During a short hearing, Iqbal, who wore a grey sweater and black trousers, was told his case could only be dealt with by a judge at a crown court.

A spokesman for Coventry Police said: “Local officers are continuing to patrol the area and residents with any concerns should speak to them or contact the neighborhood policing team on 101.”

Local Chief Inspector said: “People living in and around Awson Street will understandably be alarmed by what’s happened. Local officers will be in the area over the coming days and I would urge anyone who has any concerns to speak to them.”
